Universities Studying Slavery

Established in December 2021, the presidential taskforce examining Loyola’s connection to slavery, was charged with initiating and guiding a university-wide examination of the University’s connections to slavery and its ongoing legacies. The task force report, published in January 2024, provided an overview and analysis of the findings of the scholarly research, along with recommendations to be considered for implementation.

Our Strategic Priorities

Campus Climate
We support an institutional climate of Ignatian citizenship by providing opportunities for individual and communal reflection on how our social identities influence choices and collaborative work for justice.
Student Voices
We partner with undergraduate and graduate students to amplify their voices on matters of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Students serve as advisors, liaisons, and problem solvers who support the Office of Equity and Inclusion and advance equity as part of the University’s mission.
Collaboration
The work of DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice) extends across the entire University community through shared responsibility and accountability.
